Lou Reed said that he and Metallica were first planning to re-record a bunch of Lou Reed hits when the inspiration for Lulu struck. So I think we can all thank our lucky stars that they didn’t make a whole album of things like the totally horrible version of White Light/White Heat that they played on the Jools Holland show.

Say what you will about “The View” or “Iced Honey” (and don’t say anything about “Junior Dad”), at least there isn’t an original version to compare them to.
